Dream: I am a twenty four year old gay male. I have a friend, that I met about one year ago, who is eighteen, called Hugh. We met during a production of West Side Story in Hobart during 1999 and got on really well instantly. A few weeks ago I dreamt that Hugh came over to my house during the evening. Although I understood in the dream that I was in my own house, it was actually a modified version. It was more nicely decorated and proportioned, actually appearing like I imagine a house that I walk past occasionally and fantasise about exploring to look. We went from the lounge room to my bedroom and went to bed with each other. Hugh is a virgin and was also a virgin in the dream. I don't remember who initiated this move, but feel that it was somehow a mutual progression. We did not engage in intercourse but never-the-less did engage in sexual activity, which was nice. He was nervous and distracted, but I remember thinking to myself that this was probably typical of an eighteen year old's initial reaction to sexual activity. When we had finished, we re-emerged into the lounge room, at which point Hugh announced that he had gone blind. His eyes had become blank, rather like he no longer had a pupil in each eye. Although I was concerned for him, I thought it best to pass him straight over to a friend of mine (who appeared quite miraculously at the house) to be healed. This friend of mine is a twenty six year old female that I spent my late teens with who now lives in Queensland. She went to a back room with him and settled with him in preparation for some type of trance/hypnosis therapy, which she seemed pretty confident, would heal his eyesight. At which point I went about my business pretty much carefree (la de dah, nice for some!) That is the end of the dream.
Quentin's Diagnosis: Love your dream. We've had to imagine the good bits! The house is the layout of your spirit or soul. Nice deco and well proportioned we would say. Don't undermine the beauty and balance of your own spirit. Your thoughts take you to the bedroom. You do have a spiritual connection with Hugh but are not too worried if it doesn't happen. Hugh's distraction is concerning his spirit and dealing with a parental disapproval syndrome re sex ... if he touches it he'll go blind. For Hugh in your dream, a female (Quentin perhaps) could help him to see that his programmed guilt is stopping him from investigating himself and because you've recently become close, he's in conflict over his sexuality. Intimacy, sexuality and a terrific relationship are what you have to offer, but you don't want to molest Hugh, maybe because of his background or something closeted from the past. Coax him and wait for his move. What he wants is to trust male intimacy and not feel like a sexual object. Don't feel guilty, Hugh has chosen you and he wants your friendship. All guilt aside, he wants to see if you have the capacity to have a committed relationship. If not, what a beautiful friendship.
